OSR News Roundup for October 26th, 2026
Welcome to the last News Roundup for October. The big news this week is that Sword World, the legendary Japanese answer to early D&D and the end result of the cult Record of Lodoss War campaign, is funding on Backerkit. It looks to be another, if not record-breaking, then extremely successful campaign. Like any large campaign of its kind, there's a lot of stuff to pledge for, which always makes me a bit nervous, and they're shooting for a release date at the end of 2027. I would definitely recommend at least checking it out.
Just in time for Halloween, Maxim Lowe has released a spooky supplement for Cairn, with six new backgrounds, spellbooks, and relics (for a total of 666, you see).
Another Halloween-themed release is Prismatic Pumpkincrawl, by mindstorm, a Cairn-based adventure inspired by the animated series Over the Garden Wall and created as a collaborative effort between folks in Pristmatic Wasteland's Discord community.
Onslaught Six, the author of the well-received Castle Gygar and See You Space Cowboy, is crowdfunding a megadungeon called All the Way Down, that features the works of some other fine folks in the OSR, including HodagRPG, Tony Tran, and Chaoclypse on the art beat. It's an experiment in collaborative dungeon journaling, with seven authors creating seven dungeon layers, that were then woven into a whole.
Echoes of Mnareth is a system-neutral mini-setting and short campaign that looks really interesting with some cool art and a neat concept. It's being published by Jacob Hurst, the publisher of Swordfish Island, and he's got a proven record of putting out quality products. Curiously, they're still a fair way off from making their (pretty reasonable) goal, which doesn't seem right.
There's a bunch of releases by Red Ruin Publishing, so I'm not going to link to them all, but they've been going through their back catalog of the Casket of Fays Dragon Warriors fanzines and releasing them as print versions. Here's a link to the inaugural issue.
Lord knows I've said this a thousand times, but I really get a kick out of promoting a Kickstarter and then seeing the finished product, a month or a year later, pop up in my feed. I mention this because Cliffhanger has just been released on Drivethru after funding over the summer. It's an adventure for Shadowdark, and looks really nice. It features a delve into a haunted shipwreck clinging to the top of a cliff, threatening to fall off at any time and crash to the valley floor below.
Burning Light Press has released a compilation of the first four Issues of Tales from the Fog, the unofficial zine for the Fatherfog rpg.
By Night We Hunt has been released as an ashcan version, by incomescrane. It looks to be an interesting concept, with the players taking on the roles of reborn souls who must travel through uncounted metaphysical Domains.
I've been excited by the launch of 100 Million BC, and was tickled when I saw the recent release of The Mega-Megafauna Trilogy, a collection of three pamphlet adventures for that system that feature megafauna.
Atelier Clandestin, known for their short supplements of random tables and adventure aids, as just released Demon Generator, a system-neutral publication filled with tables and procedures to generate demons.
Forbidden Psalm | Ironclad is a new release in the line of dark fantasy skirmish games using the Mork Borg engine.
Michael Polak has just released Beauty, an adventure for Liminal Horror that explores the mystery of people vanishing from the highways outside of a small, dying town.
Sewer Scum, powered by Mork Borg, let's you jump into the action in 1980s New York as seen through action movies and comics of that time period.
Cloud & Stone on Kickstarter is a collection of two adventures inspired by the classic Against the Giants series of modules. It's written for 1e and similar clones, and features art from some of the greats, both old and new.
Quest for the Unknown: Journey to the Forbidden Plateau, is now live on Kickstarter. It's book two of an OSR Adventure Path based on the classic B1 In Search of the Unknown module. The adventurers cleared the Keep, founded by two heroes of generations past, and discovered clues that lead them to believe the pair ventured north to the Forbidden Plateau to confront a growing threat on invasion. The adventurers head north to determine what happened to the pair and if an invasion is really imminent. Should take PCs from level 3-5, and includes overland hex travel as well as dungeon delving.
