OSR News Roundup for September 1st, 2026

Welcome to the first Roundup for September, 2026. In the US we're celebrating Labor Day and remembering the struggles of those who fought for the rights of workers. Over on itch, the Mystic Wood Adventure jam is now over. It had a pretty short run-time, and I was honestly pretty shocked that it received almost one hundred entries given the quick turnaround. You can check out all of the entries here. Speaking of jams, I'm a big baseball fan, ever since growing up in St. Louis during the 80s and listening to the Cardinals on KMOX, and was excited to hear there's going to be a baseball ttrpg jam on itch that runs the length of the post-season. You can check it out here. Otherwise, it's been kind of a slow week on the release front.

  • Lydia Comer has released a bundle of black and white character portraits on itch. They're really cool, and if you're in need of some VTT tokens you should check these out.

  • John Games has released The Lost Temple of Thel-Emas. It's a remake of a dungeon they created awhile ago, using Mork Borg, and is designed to be a solo-play dungeon generator.

  • To celebrate Labor Day, the adventure To Quench a God is probably a pretty good selection, one that deals with some, ah, current themes in the news. It's written for the Black Hack.

  • The Meditation Chapel is a wacky science-fantasy one-page adventure written for Cairn that was distributed at the Between Two Cons convention in Portland.

  • Written for Shadowdark, Dark Shots is a collection of one shot adventures, each coming with a table of hooks to ease them into an existing campaign to use as filler or side-quests.

  • Sandbox Plots has released Burial Mound of Ilya the Cunning, a short one shot adventure for Shadowdark with strong Slavic folklore influences.

  • Dank Games has released Bernie's Book of Burning Beasts, a collection of six monsters native to desert and other hot regions, written for Fatherfog.

  • Written for Cairn and OSE, The Green Ooze King is for a party of level 2-3, designed to be run in about 4-6 hours.

  • Sabre's having a Labor Day sale. Use the code "JoeHill" at checkout to get 15% off everything in your cart.

  • I'm getting ready to launch In Search of Adventure, a collection of started adventures written for Bree-YARC and OSE, featuring authors such as DG Chapman and James Holloway. Everything's already written, just need maps and illustrations, so it should be a pretty fast turnaround on fulfillment.
