OSR News Roundup for September 21st, 2026

Welcome to the penultimate News Roundup for September. Early voting has started in a number of US States for the November election, and I strongly urge everyone to go out and vote this year. Otherwise, it was a pretty busy week for releases. I've compiled what I think are the highlights.

• Prismatic Wastelands just added the pdfs for Into the Oddish to itch. It mashes up Into the Odd with Pokemon, and is truly something to behold.

• Another Into the Odd-hack is One Hundred Odd Acres, a family-friendly Winnie-the-Pooh game currently in development by Broken River Games.

• Forlorn Skulk has released The Traitor's Tomb on itch. It's a weird fantasy low-level adventure site, written for OSE, with art by the author. They've also released it in a black and white version for easy printing.

• Shifting Shadows is a rules-light d12 based rpg by The Lone Legend. It was scribbled into a notebook a number of years ago and lost, but the author took photos of each spread and digitized those. I thought that was such a neat backstory of the genesis of the game.

• Kobayashi, the creator of Fleaux! and Black Sword Hack, is raising funds for Darkness Protocol, their take on an OSR version of survival horror.

• Artur B has published their first adventure, a submission to the Mystic Wood jam entitled The Tongues of Vym. It's a pointcrawl adventure for Cairn, and y'all should go download it to show support for a first-time effort!

• Adventures in Gloomwood is available in both English and Italian versions, is designed as a hexcrawl in OSE for characters of levels 3-4, and has absolutely stunning pixel art. Even the hexmap is pixelized. It's really cool.

• Written for Dolmenwood, a Feast of Silks is a "lair-style" mini-dungeon for characters levels 3-5, which means that it's designed to be dropped in to the map as needed or desired. The same author has also published the Baby in the Briar, also for Dolmenwood, designed to be a starting adventure to introduce PCs to the witches of Dolmenwood.

• There's been a surge in the number of products written for The Black Hack recently, and I'm not quite sure why, but it is welcome to see love for what was a seminal release of the 20-teens. Ears of the Abyssinian Forest is a hexcrawl written for TBH 2e.

• The fantastic folks at Expeditious Retreat Press has released a bullet point version of Level Four of Arden Vul: the Forums of Set.

• Games Omnivorous has released Goldbelly's House of Horrors, a trap-filled mini-adventure written for the FLAIL! system.

• Written for Cairn, Toxic Tangle is an adventure that includes a starting village, a mini-pointcrawl through the woods, and a mini-dungeon.

• I conducted an interview in the spring with the author behind Grim Games, and they've just released Servants of the Dragon Lord, an adventure written for Shadowdark for 5th level characters.

• Séance at Satterthwaite is an adventure for Weird Heroes of Public Access that is currently funding on Kickstarter.

• Written for Mothership, Temporal Tides is also funding on Kickstarter, an adventure set on a black market salvage station.

• Over on Kickstarter I'm raising funds for the 60th issue of Populated Hexes Monthly, this one taking a look at the clockwork city of Pesh, the frost giant kingdom of the Verglant Palatinate, and resuming the march south towards the ruined city of Zizdul.

• I'm also crowdfunding a collection of 1st level starter adventures for OSE and Bree-YARC called In Search of Adventure. The five adventures, written by folks like DG Chapman and James Holloway, are going to center around a starting town in the wilderness that will serve as a jumping off point into a campaign.
